Redemittel 1

Small Talk & Kennenlernen

Ready-made phrases for meeting people — hear them, then say them.

Redemittel are the ready-made phrases Germans actually use in a situation. You don't build them word by word — you learn the whole chunk and drop it in. This lesson gives you the ones for meeting people and making small talk, with audio for every phrase.

How to use this

Tap ▶ on a phrase and listen. Then say it out loud immediately, copying the rhythm. Hit Play all and shadow the whole set once through. Do it two days in a row and the chunks stick — that's how you sound fluent before your grammar is perfect.

Cover the English above and answer from memory.

Speak it — 4 minutes, out loud
  1. Play the whole set once and just listen.
  2. Play it again and shadow — speak along, half a second behind.
  3. Answer three of the questions about yourself out loud: Ich heiße …, ich komme aus …, ich arbeite als …
  4. Record yourself on your phone and compare the rhythm with the audio.

Shadowing trains your ear and your mouth at once — it's the fastest route from "I understand it" to "I can say it."

I'm your teacher — ask me anything. Want a phrase you didn't find here? Tell me the situation ("at the bakery", "when a colleague invites me for coffee") and I'll add a Redemittel set — with audio. Ask me to change the voice or slow it down too.
